Albany, New York, May 12, 2017: Personal computers or PCs are now a standard tool in everyday life. The wider acceptance of Personal computers in the global market has given positive impact in its sales since many years. However, the global shipments of personal computer’s for the first time in a decade declined over 2% in the first quarter of the year 2017 and also from third quarter of 2016, on account of fall in consumer demand; finds a new study added to the vast portfolio of Market Research Hub (MRH). The study is titled as “PCs Global Industry Guide 2017” and provides top-line qualitative and quantitative summary information including market size (value and volume 2012-16, and forecast to 2021). The report also adds valuable data for the buyers to understand the future growth prospects of the global pcs market with five-year forecasts by both value and volume.
In the starting section, the report presents the market outlook, by highlighting some of the major regions, including Asia-Pacific, Japan, Europe, United States, United Kingdom, France and Germany. The report has studied that in Q3 2016, worldwide PC shipments fell 5.7 percent to 68.9 million units, marking the eighth quarter of PC shipment declines. The decline in sales has been accredited to weak back-to-school demand and low demand in the consumer market in general. Globally, the PC market is also disadvantaged by the decision of Microsoft, to offer free upgrades to its latest operating system, largely suppressing any incentives to purchase new hardware to access.
In previous years, major drivers of the global personal computer market are growing Internet usage, rising incomes, growing computer education, and increasing urbanization. The personal computers (PCs) market comprises of the sales of both desktop and portable PCs. Desktop PC is a personal computer in a form proposed for regular use at a single location. On the other hand, portable PCs include laptops, notebooks and netbooks, but does not include tablet PCs.
Today, the majority of consumers own, and use, at least three different types of devices in mature markets. Among these devices, the PC is not a high primacy device for the majority of customers, so they do not feel the need to upgrade their PCs as often as they used to. Consumers in emerging market primarily use smartphones or phablets for their computing needs and also they don’t find the need to use a PC as compared in mature markets. Due to this, market consumption volumes declined with a CARC of -3.4% during 2012-2016, to reach a total of 264.5 million units in 2016, finds the study.
To determine the competitive intensity and market attractiveness, the five forces analysis has been used. The top six vendors highlighted in the report are Lenovo, Dell, Asus, HP, Apple, Acer, Fujitsu Limited and Toshiba Corporation.
